TF1 is a communications group that is developing numerous activities based around its principal trade. TF1 was privatised in 1987 by the French government and is 40% held by the Bouygues group. It has rapidly asserted itself as leading channel by offering generalised, allpublics programs and by adapting its scheduling to the behaviour of its viewers.
With an average audience share of 32.7% for individuals aged 4 years and over, TF1 confirms its status as the most popular channel with the French public. TF1 attracts nearly three out of every four French viewers daily thanks to its varied, exclusive, events-based programs and the quality of its news.
Since 1987, the TF1 group developed upstream and downstream of the broadcasting industry while maintaining its pre-eminence in free television. As a result, diversification activities represented around 43% of group operating income in 2002.
TF1 has developed subsidiaries charged with managing the audiovisual rights of its products, such as the publication, production and use of videocassettes and DVDs, information retrieval services and digital programs.
